Teaching

As an Adjunct Faculty member at Georgetown University’s Pubic Relations and Corporate Communications program I guide master’s candidates through their graduating seminar and the development of research-driven communications plans. My students’ pro bono consulting projects have covered everything from boutique vineyards to global airlines. It’s my charge to mentor student cohorts through their dissertations each semester, grade papers, peer review faculty grades, and assess oral defenses. Turns out those who can, teach, too.

Toby was so responsive and knowledgeable on everything! He always provided excellent advice during my progress reviews. I felt very fortunate to have him as an advisor since he brought his real world experience and insights to the table. Toby was also very personable and flexible as well. Although Capstone was kind of intimidating at first, in the end, I learned a lot and enjoyed having Toby as an advisor.

The best part of working with Toby was the amount of thought he put into any question I asked. Rather than trying to apply a cookie-cutter answer to a question, Toby thoughtfully analyzes the information at hand and responds with a purposefully worded recommendation that uniquely solves the presented challenge. Additionally, I really appreciated how Toby could take a step back from a specific task to organize the larger project and keep items on schedule.

Toby is a pro at both helping you fine tune details and looking at the big picture when it comes to developing a strategic communications plan. His creativity and authentic advice made working together during capstone a very rewarding and valuable experience for me.

Toby offered support with anything I brought to him during my last semester at Georgetown. He served as an incredibly insightful resource and mentor whether it be my capstone project or professional career. I considered myself extremely lucky to have worked with him because of his professional background, attention to detail, creativity, and ability to play devil’s advocate and ask deep, thought provoking questions. He was not only there to answer specifics about my capstone, but he was incredibly involved in guiding the actual direction of my project. Simply put, Toby genuinely cared about my success.

I enjoyed having a sounding board to bounce creative ideas off of and someone to help reason through consulting questions or project management issues that arose during capstone. Having regular feedback helped give me confidence going into consulting meetings and that I was creating a strong, comprehensive plan for my client.
